While many might have predicted a struggle for established European automakers in the EV transition, Škoda has, in my opinion, navigated this shift with remarkable success. Their Enyaq has already carved out a significant niche, and the even smaller, more affordable Epiq, poised to challenge the $30,000 mark, promises to bring electric mobility to an even wider audience. This strategic move towards accessible EVs, alongside siblings like the VW ID.Polo, signals a clear intent to capture a substantial portion of the growing compact EV market.
Beyond Affordability: The Premium Play
What truly piques my interest, however, is Škoda's simultaneous push towards the other end of the spectrum. While the Epiq aims for mass appeal, the forthcoming Škoda Peaq is shaping up to be a decidedly different proposition – likely their most expensive vehicle to date. This is a bold move for a brand that has built its reputation on being a sensible, budget-friendly choice. Personally, I think this demonstrates a calculated evolution, a desire to shed any lingering "budget" perceptions and compete head-on with more established premium players.

Looking at the released sketches and camouflaged prototypes, it’s clear that the Peaq is set to carry forward the design language seen in the Vision 7S concept.
